Quick news round-up

Here’s a quick catch-up on the latest news that has reached my ears.

As mentioned in the closing ramble at the May event, this Saturday sees regular saloneer Jurgen Donaldson turn 30 in considerable style. He’ll be throwing a Gatsby themed fundraiser in aid of Cancer Research. Details here.

There are some truly outstanding prizes on offer in the fundraising raffle (some indications of contributors, many of whom are from the Edinburgh food community here) so it’s a night well worth attending.

Secondly, we heard from Frances Bentley at the May event. She mentioned that she was working on an article about racism in the wine trade. This has now been published, so I’d urge you to give it a read.

Thirdly, another regular saloneer Rachel Hanretty has just opened her Mademoiselle Macaron shop, on Grindlay Street. Full of Parisian charm, the boutique combines delicious macarons and pastries with excellent Steampunk coffee. In addition, there are chaises longues to lounge on and the added attraction of dresses by La Robe a Caro. Their Eiffel Tower coffee bar is a sight to behold, so we’d warmly encourage a visit.

Finally, we look forward to seeing you at the June event, which will feature details of the upcoming Crail Food Festival, the new Localmotive market, and much more. Tickets are available here.
