Shirley Spear, owner of the Three Chimneys and chair of the Scottish Food Commission, took centre stage at the Willow Tea Rooms, on Sauchiehall Street, to launch You’ll Have Had Yer Tea? – Treasured Tastes of Scotland. The project is looking to collaboratively create a cookbook of Scottish recipes showcasing our nation’s tremendous produce.
This will produce an enduring legacy from Year of Food & Drink, to ensure the recipes from our collective memory are captured and handed down to future generations.
Shirley was as fired with enthusiasm as ever and spoke with great verve about the cooking brigades of the great Scottish houses, so often populated solely by women, and their underappreciated endeavours.
This was delivered in the stylish surroundings of the Willow Tea Rooms, where I’d not been in an age. I was delighted to tuck in the tasty breakfast rolls, with the black pudding particularly good. I admired the scones from afar.
It was lovely to catch up with familiar faces including Iain and Kate from Citylicious, and Christine from Vegemite on Oatcakes, as well as meeting Mairi from the Weegie Kitchen for the first time.
To get involved in this great project, submit your family favourite recipes to treasuredtastes@visitscotland.com. You can track things on social media via the #treasuredtastes hashtag.
