Taking the Scran Salon show on the road is always a treat, so when the Slow Food Youth Network suggested an event to welcome the visiting Dutch Youth Food Movement during their visit to Scotland, we were more than delighted to rejig our schedule, run our first Thursday night event, and welcome one and all to fabulous West End coffee house Noir.
We had a plethora of speakers, so got the show on the road with regular saloneer Brendan. Brendan told us about his new venture, Scran Media, which showcases his commitment to supporting the hospitality industry with his expert photographic eye.
Next up was Beth, who told us about the exciting new Fountainbridge Street Food Fridays, which launches on Friday 15 April. This exciting new venture builds on Beth’s excellent work with the Stockbridge, Grassmarket and Leith markets. Make sure to visit soon.
We rounded out the first set of contributors with Katie and Sarah from Strathearn Distillery. They’d brought three varieties of gin for us to try and told us all the process for creating their delicious product. The samples they’d brought were warmly appreciated.
During the mid-session interval we had a further opportunity to sample the excellent coffee made by Dean and the Noir team.
Then it was on with the show. We welcomed Wilbert from the Youth Food Movement to tell us some more about their project and their visit to Scotland. This was inspirational stuff with their work bringing together a broad constituency of food people from various sectors of the Dutch food community.
Then we had a series of lightning contributions from resident baker Lea about her new Skillshare venture, Toby about the upcoming Aeropress Championship on 21 April, Gillian with the latest from Slow Food Edinburgh and Steph about the Slow Food Youth Network.
It was then over to Amy from Stewart’s, who had brought us along some beer to sample, to round out the evening with details of their Beer Festival, which takes place on Saturday 16 April.
Scran Salon returns to a Monday night next month. We’ll be back at Akva on 2 May. We look forward to welcoming you then.
