September 2016

It was lovely to welcome the Scran Salon brethren back to our more regular recent home, Akva, for the September event.

This salon in the calendar can often be a rather low-key affair as it follows hot in the heels of the frenetic Festival fun of August. We were pleasantly populated, though, and the early evening brightened into rather splendid sunshine by the time we got underway.

With resident baker Lea cooking for a Rio Olympian, the wonderful Strumpets ladies stepped into the cakey breach with a rather lovely white chocolate and cardamom cake that was devoured on sight.

Once I’d done the usual intro waffling, I welcomed two speakers to the stage.

Firstly we had Alison from the Soil Association who told us about the events to mark Organic September. Get involved here!

We then had Alastair from Bespoke by Angels with Bagpipes. We’ve long been a supporter of Angels’ various pop-up events dating back to some of our first salons in 2014. This new project seeks to offer social dining in a range of settings, so keep an eye out for future developments.

To round things out, we had a little summary of what’s going on for Scottish Food & Drink Fortnight which takes place over the coming couple of weeks. Full details are available on their website.

All that was left was to thank everyone for coming along, deal with the last few crumbs of cake, then invite everyone to join us again in October for the next thrilling episode.
